Licensed Veterinary Technician working in Internal Medicine (IM) performing Dialysis must be able to perform at a high level of practice with minimal supervision. The role includes assisting internists with appointments, client communication, and collaborating with staff doctors to make daily assessments and procedures run smoothly and efficiently. The Internal Medicine & Dialysis LVT assists with dialysis catheter placement and urinary and scoping procedures. This role will also assist with running Dialysis and extracorporeal therapy treatments. The IM & Dialysis LVT is responsible for routine care and maintenance of the Dialysis suite, including inventory and machine maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Proficiency in technical skills including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, and monitoring vitals
Understanding of IM dialysis procedures and set up
Perform dialysis and extracorporeal therapy treatments on patients
Manage anesthetic emergencies during procedures
Support on-call dialysis and extracorporeal therapies
Maintain sanitation and stocking of the Dialysis Suite and equipment
Maintain an appropriate inventory of the Dialysis and IM Suite
Provide routine care and maintenance of all Dialysis and IM equipment
Work independently under the guidance of Internal Medicine Specialists
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
NYS veterinary technician’s license
One to two years of experience as an LVT in IM & Dialysis
Demonstrated ability in quality clinical care, technical services, and teamwork
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, multi-tasking while paying close attention to details
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, demonstrating a high level of initiative
High proficiency in patient handling and monitoring, supportive therapy, treatments, and procedures
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with clients, colleagues, and referring veterinarians
Education
Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited AVMA college program in veterinary technology
Experience
One to two years of experience as an LVT in IM & Dialysis
Experience in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and stabilization of critical patients
