The Department of Medicine and the Division of Nephrology, Hypertension and Transplant Medicine at The Medical College of Georgia - Augusta University are seeking applicants for seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to serve as a Transplant Nephrologist to assist in expanding the kidney and kidney pancreas transplant program. The Medical College of Georgia is the only state sponsored medical school in the state of Georgia and one of the largest medical schools in the country.
The Transplant Nephrologist should hold an MD or DO degree from an accredited institution as well as having completed an accredited Nephrology Transplant Fellowship Program and be board certified or board eligible in Nephrology.
The Transplant Nephrologist will assist the current transplant surgeons, transplant nephrologists, transplant pharmacist, transplant nurses, nurse practitioners and ancillary staff in providing exceptional care to our kidney and kidney-pancreas transplant candidates and recipients.
Augusta University works actively to promote living donation, has an active paired donation program and has an extensive outreach program in several rural Georgia and South Carolina communities. The Transplant Nephrologist will also be expected to participate in clinical and translational research in transplantation by assisting in planning and implementing research protocols with the goal of expanding our current research endeavors. The current areas of interest at AU are chronic allograft nephropathy, management of sensitized patients, post-transplant, malignancies, immune tolerance, immune-modulation and literacy in health care outcomes in transplantation.
Although not required, candidates with established research experience are encouraged to apply as there are ample opportunities for collaboration with a dedicated team studying immune tolerance mechanisms. AU has exceptional core research facilities and laboratory space.
Augusta University kidney transplant program began in 1968. The program serves a 2 state catchment area and pancreas transplantation was added in 1994. There are currently 4 transplant surgeons and 3 transplant nephrologists.
